Post-secondary students and recent graduates are now eligible for the Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB) – a benefit of $1,250/month from May to August 2020. This benefit is increased to $1,750 for people with disabilities or caring for others. Recipients are eligible to earn up to $1,000/month while receiving this benefit.
Eligibility for this benefit is based on your student status. You must have attended post-secondary studies between December 1, 2019 and August 31, 2020, in a program that leads to a degree or have recently graduated from high school and applied for post-secondary education with enrollment prior to February 1, 2021. Payments will be made in 4- week periods (expected to match the CERB and CEWS periods).
In addition to this benefit, the government has also announced the Canada Student Service Grant ranging between $1,000 – $5,000 for those volunteering rather than working. They have created 76,000 student jobs and have promised to double student grants for the 2020-2021 school year.
